Petition to U.S. Peace Council and its
member organizations including ...

We are concerned about the fate of the members of the unofficial peace
movements in Eastern Europe, specifically in the Soviet Union and
in East Germany. Your organization has good contacts with the
official peace movements of these countries through the World Peace
Council. We urge the U.S. Peace Council to take an official position
in favor of the release of the members of the unofficial peace movements
from prisons, prison camps, psychiatric hospitals and internal exile.
We urge the the U.S. Peace Council to bring to a vote in the World
Peace Council the following propositions.

1. The World Peace Council should recognize and include in its membership
these unofficial organizations. It is important that there be peace
movements in all countries able to take positions independent of the
policies of their governments.

2. The World Peace Council should demand the release of Academician Andrei
Sakharov and his wife from internal exile.

3. The World Peace Council should demand the release of the members of the Group
to Promote Trust Between the Peoples of the United States and the Soviet
Union in the Soviet Union. The World Peace Council should invite this
organization to membership. (trust builders)

4. The World Peace Council should recognize the Swords into Plowshares
movement in East Germany, demand the release from prison of its members
and demand that this organization be permitted to function legally.

5. The World Peace Council should demand the release of the following
individuals who are imprisoned for their non-violent activities in behalf
of peace and friendship of nations.
